Welcome to Plateful. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our food discovery and rating platform.

Account Information

• Email address
• Display name and profile photo (optional)
• Taste preferences and dietary restrictions
• Optional onboarding survey answer (how you heard about Plateful, including an ambassador code if you enter one)

User-Generated Content

• Dish reviews and ratings
• Photos you upload (camera or photo library access is used only when you attach a photo, and only with your permission)
• Comments and feedback
• Wishlist items
• Social connections (follows)

Automatically Collected Information

• Location data (only while you use the app, with your permission, to show restaurants and dishes near you — we don't keep a history of your movements)
• Device information and browser type
• Usage data and interactions with the app
• Push notification token (only if you enable notifications)
• Crash reports and diagnostics, via Sentry (not used for advertising)
• IP address and cookies

We use your information to:

• Personalize your experience: Match dishes to your taste preferences, and learn from the dishes you rate so those matches improve over time (see “AI-Generated Taste Insights” below)
• Enable core features: Allow you to write reviews, save favorites, and follow users
• Improve our service: Analyze usage patterns and fix bugs
• Communicate with you: Send important updates and respond to feedback
• Ensure security: Prevent fraud and protect user accounts

Plateful builds a personal “Taste Journey” summary from the dishes you have rated. The underlying analysis, and the match scores you see throughout the app, are computed on our own servers. To turn that analysis into a short written summary, we send a limited set of data to Anthropic, which operates the Claude AI models.

What we send

• The taste preferences you saved during onboarding (spice level, sweet vs savory, portion size, healthiness, and favourite cuisines)
• Summary statistics derived from your ratings, such as your average rating per cuisine and how many reviews it is based on
• Up to 30 of your review comments, each shortened to 280 characters

What we do not send

• Your name, email address, or account identifier — the data is sent without anything identifying you
• Your dietary restrictions or allergy information
• Your photos or your location

Anthropic processes this data as our service provider in order to return the summary, and does not use it to train their models. We do not use it to make decisions about you beyond describing your own taste back to you.

This feature is additive. Your dish match scores are calculated entirely on our own servers and do not depend on it, so if the AI summary is unavailable the rest of the app is unaffected. Reviews you have not written a comment on send no written text at all.

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Other users: Your public reviews, ratings, and profile information are visible to other Plateful users
• Service providers: Supabase (database, authentication, and photo storage), Vercel (website hosting), Expo (app updates and push notification delivery), Sentry (crash reporting), Anthropic (AI-generated taste summaries, described below), and Apple and Google (maps, places data, and platform notification services). These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal data
• Correct: Update inaccurate or incomplete information
• Delete: Permanently delete your account and data at any time in the app (Profile → Delete Account)
• Export: Email us to request a copy of your reviews and data
• Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

• Encryption of data in transit and at rest
• Row-level security policies in our database
• Regular security audits and updates
• Secure authentication via Supabase Auth

We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze how you use Plateful. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Plateful is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
